Infotech consultants developed a simulator for Low Voltage
Distribution Line Network Management. Using this system a
design engineer can simulate an electric power distribution
network in a geographic area. Whenever there is an additional
load requirement he can simulate typical changes in the network
like changing transformer capacity, transformer position,
wire diameter and load sharing. The system assists in choosing
suitable alternatives within the limits of the design parameters
and working out a precise diagram of existing network and
mapping them onto actual (geographical) maps of the area.
The
software was developed on Sun SPARC stations using X-Windows,
Openlook GUI, ARC/INFO ver. 6.0 GIS, S-Plus (AT&T's statistical
package), Oracle RDBMS, C and Pro*C. Various tools of ARC/INFO
such as ARC/EDIT, ARC/PLOT, ARC/VIEW, Library, Networks, Dynamic
Segmentation, Data Conversion tools, Image integration were
used for development. Elaborate query facilities were provided
using ARC/VIEW to simulate the impact on the existing grid
for different designs.
