Tata
Infotech has added a new and prestigious Canadian client to
its customer list: the Ministry of Forests, British Columbia,
Canada. The client has entrusted Tata Infotech with doing
the project offshore; a testimony to Tata Infotech's experience
and project management skill in executing projects offshore.
The project is a re-engineering and maintenance assignment
which, will span a period of one year and will have around
fifty software engineers working full-time during the conversion
phase.
The
Tata Infotech team will go about migrating nine of the Ministry's
business applications; dealing with revenue and trade activities;
from the present obsolete platform to an Internet-based Java
and Oracle platform.
These applications concerned with revenue and trade activities
are important business applications for the Ministry; who
protects and manages forest resources. The forest resources
are a major source of environment, economic and social benefit
to the Province of British Columbia, which is renowned for
its rich and diverse forest and range resources; 90% of which
is publicly owned. Being an outdated platform, the Ministry
was finding it difficult to support the old system; besides
the Ministry was keen to upgrade to a more open and efficient
system.
Tata
Infotech will undertake this project in a phased manner with
the requirement analysis being conducted on-site; followed
by the offshore conversion and testing phase. Then, the acceptance
testing, implementation and post implementation support phase
will be done on-site.
