SYSTEMS
INTEGRATION
Case 1:
Customer: State Government, India
Technology: Systems Integration
The Customer
The Customer is a state government in India
The Challenge
- Manual flow of information
- Delay in government projects due to a
lack of real-time information
- Lack of transparency and poor public
interface
The Solution
The state government was facing a major challenge
as departments, applications, users in the state departments and
citizens had different systems. Some of the systems were automated
while the citizens' interaction with the government continued to
be manual and thus inefficient and time consuming. The government
had to plan for a unified communication infrastructure, ensuring
that all channels of the government were able to interact effectively
and in real-time.
Tata Infotech undertook the state-wide integration
of the government IT infrastructure, which included a systems integration
that encompassed the supply, installation commissioning and facility
management of server hardware, routers, switches, multi-conferencing
units, EPABX, UPS, Mail, Web, DNS Servers, Firewall, Cache Engine,
Security Components etc.
This allowed for citizen centric services in remote
places covering 17 district headquarters. The district headquarters
were connected to the state capital via a 2mbps fibre optic line
to support data-video-voice, providing for a seamless flow of information.
Citizens were provided access to the system through Info kiosks
and the state government got real-time connectivity to information
from across the state enabling it to monitor, review, assess and
manage everything from project management to disaster management.
Citizens can download a variety of information/data/free
forms for applications etc in both English and the vernacular language
without the necessity of physically going to various government
offices. Additional services like internet access, telemedicine
and e-learning can also be availed using the infrastructure.
The Benefits
- Real-time access to an information system
across the state.
- Improved and enhanced services to the
citizens at lower cost.
- Better project implementation and improved
disaster planning and control
