Tata Infotech Ltd has entered into a research arrangement with internationally- renowned Dalle Molle Institute for Perpetual Artificial Intelligence (IDIAP). Dr. Nirmal Jain, Managing Director, Tata Infotech, and Dr. Herve Bourlard, Director, IDIAP signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU), during Dr. Jain’s recent visit to Switzerland.

As per the MOU, the Tata Infotech Cognitive Systems Research (CSR) Laboratory, which is concerned with research activities related to speech, script, natural language and artificial intelligence, will work closely with the IDIAP on joint research projects in areas of shared interests like speech synthesis, speech recognition, natural language processing and artificial intelligence.

IDIAP is a research institute recognized by the Swiss Government, and the leading house of the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR), on Interactive Multi-modal Information Management, and conducts research in various aspects of speech, speech recognition, computer vision and machine learning technologies.

The “symmetrical’ agreement between the two organisations permits the mutual exchange of personnel, the undertaking of joint research activities, and applying for government funding together, whether in India or Switzerland.

The signing of the MOU comes close on the heels of a visit made by the Director of IDIAP, Dr. Herve Bourlard, to the CSR Laboratory of Tata Infotech, headed by Dr. P.V.S. Rao, where he was impressed with the work being undertaken in the laboratory.
