19/09/2002 |
Tata
Infotech in partnership with the Computerised Inventory Control
Project (CICP) Team of the Army Ordnance Corps has completed
a multi-crore Inventory Management and an MIS project for
the Army. CICP is one of the premier IT projects of the Army.
Integrated Inventory Management application has been developed
by Tata Infotech using state-of-the-art Java Enterprise Beans
(J2EE) technology. The pilot phase of this project has more
than 1500 screens and is one of the largest projects in terms
of expanse and functionality using J2EE technology.
Implementation
of CICP has ushered a new era of automation of activities
akin to ERP in the Army Ordnance Corps, the materials managers
of the Indian Army. Modern Material Management techniques
have been incorporated in CICP, which would result in enhanced
transparency, asset visibility and customer satisfaction.
CICP system would bring in savings through reduced inventory
carrying costs and accurate provisioning. The system would
fulfill the long outstanding need of the Army Ordnance Corps
(AOC) that manages the largest inventory in the country. The
project shall also result in reduction of paper work in the
Army, faster response to operational requirements of the field,
effective logistics support and effective MIS and decision
support system for commanders in chain.
Tata
Infotech has undertaken execution of the Systems Integration
project on turnkey basis. Teams of software engineers and
system integrators of Tata Infotech along with domain experts
in the field of Materials Management of CICP have worked tirelessly
for the past two years to develop & implement this robust
and user friendly system. The CICP team worked hard along
with Tata Infotech to ensure success of such a challenging
project within a span of two years.
To
facilitate use and to enhance customer satisfaction, features
such as Touch Screen, Digital images of inventory and Interactive
Voice Response system (IVRS) has been provided. Use of hand
held terminals has been done for receipt, warehousing and
stock taking activities in the system, thereby resulting in
saving of time.
CICP
has brought in qualitative improvements in the functioning
of Army Ordnance Corps in particular and the Army in general.
The turnkey Systems Integration project executed by Tata Infotech
stands as an excellent example of successfully building mission
critical IT infrastructure through partnership between industry
and Defence.
