Paper
on Semantic Interoperability Issues presented at 3rd International
National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Workshop
14th November 2003 |
The 3rd national workshop on NSDI, India took
place at Agra on 13th-15th, November. The workshop attracted over
120 delegates including important policy makers related to geospatial
data and delegates from abroad. The theme for the workshop was
"Empowering People Through Geospatial Data".
Sumit Sen presented a paper on "Semantic
Interoperability Issues" in the concluding session, which
had a number of presentations that discussed how the various data
generating agencies (private or public) have been working and
what value and content in terms of spatial data can they add to
the NSDI.
The paper, which was received very well, threw
light on how industries and data producers can work on a common
environment without loosing their individual expertise and culture.
NSDI for India is aimed at creating a national
infrastructure for the wide availability and access to organized
spatial data. Use of this infrastructure at the community, local,
state, regional and national levels is aimed at for sustained
economic growth.
