Tata Infotech to enter training market for IT-enabled services
Financial Express - May 10, 2001

TATA Infotech is considering a foray into the training market for IT-enabled services. According to Dr Nirmal Jain, managing director, Tata Infotech Limited, "There is a vast market for customer-oriented services and that would be our major area of focus." The modalities of the foray are yet to be decided.

Tata Infotech Education is planning to invest Rs 50 crore in the next two years on education-related activities which would include expansion in India as well as overseas. The company is all set to make a foray into Nepal and Philippines soon while talks are on for entering the Vietnam, Hong Kong and Middle East markets.

In keeping with the fresh thrust on education, the company is also doubling the marketing and adspend, Dr Jain said. He pointed out that what sets apart the education programmes provided by the company is the company’s ability to place its students. The company has a career advancement group to help in placements.

‘Ambition’ launched
Tata Infotech Education announced the launch of ‘ambition’ —a range of professional courses for skill upgradation in the latest technologies and industry segments. The company will introduce this new channel through a chain of over 200 exclusive centres across the country.

Dr Jain pointed out, "With the launch of ‘ambition’, Tata Infotech aims to penetrate this market segment in 35 metro cities and 100 non-metro cities in the Indian sub-continent."

Mr Rahul Thapan, head, education services, said the company in association with US-based SmartForce has brought in ‘ambition’ range of courses, which have either been co-developed or approved by 19 infotech vendors like Cisco, Sun, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Intel, and SAP.

Mr Thapan informed that ‘ambition’ includes major aspects of IT education—from MapX to dotNet, Oracle, Java and Wings.

Mr Thapan said, "There is an increasing demand for specialisation in every sector today. With IT encompassing all sectors, it is imperative for professionals to keep updating their skills so as to be at par with industry requirements. With the launch of ‘ambition’, we are trying to address that need."
