Tata Infotech acquires
40% stake in Sitel India

Tata Infotech Ltd has acquired 40 per cent of
the equity capital of Sitel India Pvt Ltd for an investment of
about Rs 10.5 crores, according to Tata Infotech officials. Sitel
India is a company in the IT enabled services business which focuses
on call centre services.
Sitel India Pvt Ltd is a 50:50 joint venture
with Systems Integrated Telemarketing Netherlands BV (a subsidiary
of Sitel Corporation, USA) and the Tata Group. Tata Infotech has
basically bought a part of the stake held by Tata International
in Sitel India.
"Its a strategy to enter the IT enabled
services sector which we feel is the fastest growing and not over
crowded either. We want to diversify into the sector since we
have the capabilities to do so" said Tata Infotech Chairman
FK Kavarana, when contacted.
Sitel India provides web-enabled customer care
and technical support services for English-speaking customers
throughout the United States, United Kingdom and other English-speaking
countries, from its 30,000 sq ft. contact centre in Mumbai.
Formed as a joint venture with Tata International,
the international business arm of the Tata Group, Sitel India
utilizes company’s operating practices and standards, and
leverages Tata’s technology capabilities and local presence.
The Tata Group is understood to be considering
a restructuring of the operations of Tata Infotech. Mr Kavarana
had indicated at a recent press meet of the company that a restructuring
could be on the cards and that the idea was to put in place a
"divisional or pyramid" organisation structure in the
company. He was unwilling to disclose further details. He had
also added that he would continue to oversee the operations of
the company as long as "the Group chairman wished it".
