Tata Infotech to open 10 overseas training centres
by September

Tata Infotech a division of Tata Sons, will open
upto 10 more overseas computer training centres in the next six
months as part of its plans to start 50 international centres
by the end of 2002.
"We are opening three training centres in
South Africa in July, and two more in Bangladesh in June,"
Chief of the company in education division Rahul Thapan said.
The company's Nepal centres are also coming up
shortly, he said. At present, tata Infotech has centres in Sri
Lanka(which was started one year ago). Bangladesh and Philippines.
In its overseas businesses, the revenue model
would be licence fee plus revenue-sharing with the respective
state governments, which is in the range of 80:20, he said.
Thapan, however, didn't reveal the investment
plan for the overseas expansion.
In all the international centres, tata Infotech
will provide the faculty for a while to train the local teachers
and operate the centres through franchisee route, Mr. Thapan said:
The move behind sprucing up international operations
is seen as an effort to derive more than 15 per cent revenue from
the education division of the company.
"We are reorienting our growth strategy
to make education services to contribute at least 15 per cent
of the overall revenue of Tata Infotech Business," Mr. Thapan
said.
The company is ramping up its domestic operations
as well, whereby it is planning to open over 400 centres from
the current 200 by 2002-end, he said.
Tata Infotech recently tied up with smart force
of the US, which provides interactive software for IT training.
Last week, the company had announced a partnership
with Microsoft to introduce a language programme for software
professionals based on the .Net platform. The programme, C sharp,
which is an object-oriented language derived from C and C++, will
heop programmers to build solutions for Microsoft .Net platform
quickly.
The programme is also aimed at professionals
from other streams for upgradations and build applications on
the .Net platform.
In the next phase, visual studio, SQL server,
Biztalk and messaging would be offered on the .Net platform, Mr.
Rhapan said. The company's other alliances have been with Baan,
Edexel, Intel and Onward Novell.
Tata Infotech's other three divisions are systems
integration which contributes 70 per cent of the company's total
income, software business and manufacturing division.
