Tata Infotech to
focus on local market
Business Standard - July 27, 2001 |
Mumbai: Tata Infotech is focusing
on the domestic front to beat the effects of the US slowdown.
The company, which saw an over 50 pr cent growth
in its US business last year, is expecting a reduced growth this
year. The company is expecting to beat the US meltdown by developing
new technologies and XML-based products.
Tata Infotech managing director, Nirmal Jain,
said: "Last year we witnessed an over 50 per cent growth
in the US, but this year with the US slowdown, I feel we will
barely be able to achieve half of that growth. Although US will
still remain our biggest growth market, we are equally focusing
on developing new products and technologies for the domestic market.
Elaborating on the plans for the domestic market,
Jain said: "Our focus is to become one of the largest systems
integrators of the country". Currently, the domestic market
contributes close to 30 per cent of Tata Infotech’s turnover.
"We are working on a number of frontline
technologies for voice recognition, natural language processing
and IT security apart from embedded technology for the whole industry,"
Jain said. "We have developed a product on XML technology
which helps to convert legacy documents into word documents completely
through automation.
This is an intelligent product and we have the
IPR for it," said Jain. The product is scheduled be launched
in three to four months. Currently, the alpha and beta tests of
the product are on. Tata Infotech has recorded net profits of
Rs.5.42 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2001.
