Tata Infotech to
take IT to schools

It’s information technology education in
the heart of the hinterland. Tata Infotech has been signed up
by the Haryana government to deliver basic IT training to 2,240
schools and 67 colleges in the state. The company has also initiated
discussions with the Gujarat government for a similar project.
Students in state-owned schools in Haryana will be able to avail
of basic IT education from Tata Infotech at Rs. 80 per month,
while college students will have to pay Rs.140 per month, Tata
Infotech Education head Rahul Thapan told ET.
The Project will involve an initial investment
of Rs.5 crore by Tata Infotech and the company will be designing
course material in the Haryanvi dialect, said Mr. Thapan. Under
the terms of the agreement with the Haryana government, Tata Infotech
will be required to dedicate 90 hours of training to school students
and 120 hours to college students every month. It will also have
to dedicate 4 personal computers for every 200 students.
