Tata Infotech sees 30% revenue from e-governance in 2 years
Solutions to be offered to states in public health, agriculture

Kolkata: System integration major Tata Infotech Ltd. Expects that 30 per cent of its revenue will be generated from various e-governance projects in the next two years.

The Company which posted a turnover of Rs. 524 crore in the last financial year, has earned around 20 per cent of its revenue from the implementation of e-governance projects in several states.

To attain its desired level of revenue, the company is closely working with Sun Microsystems.

Said the company’s senior vice president for system integration division, Mr. VK Malhotra, "We have a relationship with Sun Microsystems in the area of e-governance solutions and its technology offerings constitute our solutions package."

The company has created a separate e-governance and e-commerce division to implement various citizen-administration solutions. "This is one of the areas that we believe needs attention. With our system integration expertise, we hope to achieve our target," said Mr. Malhotra.

The company, which recently implemented the state-wide area network project in 17 districts of West Bengal , has plans to offer e-governance solutions to different staes in areas of public health, utilities and agriculture. In West Bengal, the company has shown interest in working closely with the state government on its initiative to bring IT to the masses,.

Said Mr. Malhotra, "At present, we are working with various state governments in areas of commercial tax, IT solutions for the motor vehicles department, particularly in the area of driving licence and geographical information system based applications. We want to work closely with various state governments in their efforts to create smart and transparent administrative facilities."

In the last financial year, the company has worked for central ground water board in the area of geographical information system (GIS)

"Agriculture is one of the areas where the farmers need various kinds of information. With the implementation of various agriculture-based applications, we will be able to fulfill the needs of the millions of farmers," said the company’s vice-president for systems integration, Mr. Anand Nilekani, said.
